Description

Ronin Elite Bare Blade

Ronin Elite katana have been traditionally forged and laminated in the soshu kitae tradition (seven panel steel). This school was developed by the legendary Japanese smith Masamune, and combines panels of hard, medium, and soft steels. The core of the blade is formed from softer, more malleable steel giving it exceptional flexibility. A layer of slightly harder steel is bonded to each side of the core to add support. The last layers are a very hard steel bonded to the top, bottom, and both sides of the core forming the ha (cutting edge) mune (back edge) and shinogi-ji (blade flats). This form of laminar construction provided for a sword that could be sharpened to a razor edge due to the hardened steed used for the ha, but was extremely resilient to battle damage due to its softer more flexible core.

    Pretty but not functional

Second time trying to post a comment. This blade came looking amazing. I had plans for it be dressed in custom trimmings. As I examined the blade closer there were no noticeable defects. The finishing of the blade was lacking however. The polish was not as nice as expected when the wax from the saya was removed. The belly of the blade was also very dull. It could not even make it dent in a piece of paper. That’s not a test I like to do but after feeling the edge decided I better. Maybe they sent one of the scratch and dents by accident. This will stay in its current form as wall art, after I put a razor edge back on the blade.

I bought this on a whim. I'm glad I did and was pleasantly surprised. It's a really nice looking blade, not like what I've watched for years coming out of China with big burly ghastly hada. This is a nicely done blade and feels "solid".
