Ronin Elite Katana #111
This Ronin Elite katana has been traditionally forged and laminated in the soshu kitae tradition (seven panel steel). This school was developed by the legendary Japanese smith Masamune, and combines panels of hard, medium, and soft steels. The core of the blade is formed from softer, more malleable steel giving it exceptional flexibility. A layer of slightly harder steel is bonded to each side of the core to add support. The last layers are a very hard steel bonded to the top, bottom, and both sides of the core forming the ha (cutting edge) mune (back edge) and shinogi-ji (blade flats). This form of laminar construction provided for a sword that could be sharpened to a razor edge due to the hardened steed used for the ha, but was extremely resilient to battle damage due to its softer more flexible core.

Worth the money!
I was kind of nervous making this purchase but I am so glad I did. The blade feels great in the hand with its tight Ito wrap and the blade geometry is symmetrical. Symmetry is very important to me, and while I read online that someone else had a bad experience getting one bent and uneven, I did not have this problem. I can also say first hand this blade cuts, as I sliced my pinky down to the bone and it only took a light amount of pressure; perhaps the legend of the Masamune blood hungry sword has some truth to it, or I just should be more careful. Either way, it's an excellent blade. My only complaint is that the kurigata fell out without the Sageo having ever been unwrapped. Other than that, I have no complaints and I love the story behind the replication of this Katana!
