Description
Ronin Elite Laminated Katana Fan Favorites Series Model #1
This Ronin Elite katana has been traditionally forged and laminated in the soshu kitae tradition (seven panel steel). This school was developed by the legendary Japanese smith Masamune, and combines panels of hard, medium, and soft steels. The core of the blade is formed from softer, more malleable steel giving it exceptional flexibility. A layer of slightly harder steel is bonded to each side of the core to add support. The last layers are a very hard steel bonded to the top, bottom, and both sides of the core forming the ha (cutting edge) mune (back edge) and shinogi-ji (blade flats). This form of laminar construction provided for a sword that could be sharpened to a razor edge due to the hardened steed used for the ha, but was extremely resilient to battle damage due to its softer more flexible core.

Second Katana Purchase
Today I received the 2nd katana ever purchased from Ronin. The first was a dojo pro edition, today I received an “elite” edition. The difference was immediately apparent even to my wife who doesn’t know the difference. The form, fit and finish are top notch and exceed any expectation. The balance is perfection itself. Agile, and obviously capable for cut AND thrust. I noticed that the angle at the base near the tsuba seems more pronounced upward than other swords I’ve worked with. I can easily imagine an authoritative cut with this sword. It’s so light! NOTHING rattles or seems loose. Really sturdy. Nothing loose. What little wear I could find at the mouth of the saya tells me it has seldom been drawn. Only small imperfections can be seen, which is expected for ANYTHING hand made. And I love that! The lacquered saya is a thing of beauty. The whole sword is! All gold stars. Can’t be any MORE excited with the acquisition. It’s absolutely PERFECT in every way! The hamon/ hadori couldn’t be any better! My heartfelt thanks to the artisans that crafted this magnificent sword. They really did a fantastic job with this one. I’m one happy customer, that’s for sure!

This is my fist real katana and for the price I’m very impressed I’ve been doing a lot of research and this is the best bang for your buck by far, blade is very sharp and everything is crafted perfectly, just an overall beautiful katana.
