Description
Ronin Elite Laminated Katana Fan Favorites Series Model #5
This Ronin Elite katana has been traditionally forged and laminated in the soshu kitae tradition (seven panel steel). This school was developed by the legendary Japanese smith Masamune, and combines panels of hard, medium, and soft steels. The core of the blade is formed from softer, more malleable steel giving it exceptional flexibility. A layer of slightly harder steel is bonded to each side of the core to add support. The last layers are a very hard steel bonded to the top, bottom, and both sides of the core forming the ha (cutting edge) mune (back edge) and shinogi-ji (blade flats). This form of laminar construction provided for a sword that could be sharpened to a razor edge due to the hardened steed used for the ha, but was extremely resilient to battle damage due to its softer more flexible core.

Overall great
Sword arrived very quickly after purchasing in overall great condition. Blade required a little cleaning as there is a waxy substance inside the scabbard, probably to keep it from getting scratched/scratching the wood. The sword itself is beautiful and sturdy. The only thing holding this back from a 5 star is at some point in shipping I’d assume the kurigata came loose and is no longer bound to the rest of the scabbard. Disappointing, but easily fixable with some wood glue.

First Ronin Katana
This was the first sword I bought from Ronin Katana. It was also the first expensive katana I've bought, so not sure what I expected but I was really pleased with what I received. The sword arrived quickly (shipped out almost immediately), in great shape. I was very impressed with the blade... straight and sharp, beautiful harmon and the fittings were high quality and well assembled. Loved this sword so much, I turned around and bought one from the dojo pro series... one for show... one for go! Love this company. I plan to buy many more swords from them in the future.
