S&D Dojo Pro Wakizashi model #4

Posted by Bryce McCraw on Mar 8th 2025

Pretty mixed bag on this one. On the positive side, overall feel and balance of the wakizashi is great. I love the way the blade moves in the hand, the tsuba looks great in my opinion, and the horn saya components are lovely. On the negative side, I think the particular wakizashi I received is pretty rough even for a scratch and dent. Saya fit is pretty loose, which was not unexpected. Larger issues seem to be an alignment problem that creates a decent size gap between the tsuba and the seppa/tsuka. I am not sure if the parts just don't fit together well causing the shift or if the tang is actually slightly bent. Most disappointing for me is as I throw cuts, I can actively feel the tang moving inside of the tsuka. Wiggling the sword back and forth in my hand results in being able to feel and hear the movement inside the handle. I have bought multiple scratch and dent items including a Dojo Pro #21 and a tanto which I thought were very impressive for the money; this one just feels a little disappointing .

    Minor issues only

Posted by FlowerPower on Apr 2nd 2024

The only issues I can find is that the tsuba is installed backwards and the saya is loose--both easily corrected. There was a plastic bag stuck in the saya which prevented the sword from being fully inserted, but I was able to make a simple tool from some steel rod and fished it out. I dropped the saya and chipped the laquer in the process, and filling that in and polishing it back to a mirror took far more effort than fixing the "scratches and dents"! S&D issues aside, it's a great sword, glad I got the daisho set with katana #13. Fantastic attention to detail on the wakizashi as well.

    My #4 wakizashi

Posted by G.R. Bilyeu on Nov 1st 2023

I continue to be surprised and impressed by all of my Dojo-pro scratch and dent swords. This is my 1st wakizashi and I am in love with it. There are no issues with the sword or saya that I can't easily address myself. It's sharp, light and fast. It's one of the most attractive swords in my small collection, in my opinion. I got a Dojo-pro model #13 to go with this one and they're beautiful together. I'm as pleased as can be with this purchase and grateful that they were able to find me a pair of swords this nice for such an affordable price. I like that the Dojo-pro line are tough and easy to maintain while still being nice looking swords. I'll keep buying from Ronin Katana as long as they keep selling me swords this nice.
